The Most Powerful Missionary Tool
September 16, 2019
Hello folks! I feel like I emailed you yesterday.
Time flies here, I feel like there's not enough time during the day to do everything we want too. I hope all the Young Adults got to watch the Face to Face event with Elder Soares and Elder Christensen! It was wonderful to hear from Apostles how we can deal with Satan’s attacks.
This week was chock-full of nonmember lessons. I love teaching members too, in fact we taught a member this week that just so happened to be in a really yummy restaurant called Hu-Hot. Highly recommend if you so happen to be in Eau Claire. Also the weather is BEAUTIFUL here! (And actually warm whaaaat???) It is still very green, fall is slowly starting to creep in. Overall, it's been a very fruitful week.
Just recently my testimony of the Book of Mormon has grown even more.
STORY TIME
We met a homeless lady a week ago. This past week we decided to check up on her, but couldn't find her. In the process of searching at the homeless shelter we met a young man there (I feel like I shouldn't reveal his name). He asked us if we were Mormons, to which we said yes. He walked up to us and asked for a Book of Mormon! Wow! (Boy that was easy) He explained that he got the book 6 years ago from Elder Missionaries and he read through all of it, then someone stole it! So we gave him a new one and set up an appointment. We met up with him on Saturday planning on asking him what he knows about our church and a history of the Book of Mormon. He couldn't remember what the Elders said but he did remember how much he loved the Book of Mormon. He instantly started rummaging through the book and insisted on reading Helaman chapter 1 and 3 Nephi chapters 1-2 himself to us because they are his favorites. The 0.5 seconds after he was done reading he asked when and where our church was! We then gave him a pamphlet that had the church address and time with our number. Talk about planting seeds! Good job Elders from 6 years ago. It just shows how true the Book of Mormon is and how powerful it is!
So that's been a pretty big highlight. I'm so thankful for God’s trust in me as a missionary to bring His children that he loves so much into the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He trusts all of His worthy members too, to testify of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon to His children who are ready to receive it. So don't be afraid to share with someone why you love it because it was specifically written for us!
We've had some neat experiences where we felt that the spirit seemingly sent us to a place for no reason while we were tracting, but we kept going and eventually found a woman and her son who were interested. We teach them this week as well as a Hmong couple! We just so happened to have a Book of Mormon in Hmong (she couldn't read English) and we gave it to her and invited her to read it. Her husband didn't seem too pleased with the idea of inviting "new" scripture into the house, but we stopped by later and only he was there. He said that his wife had been reading out of the Book of Mormon and that he would allow his wife (and himself, obviously) to be taught by us. YES!
LATEST UPDATES
Justin has a baptismal date set for the 12th of October! Yay! We're hoping and praying he is keeping his commitments. He is dead set on attending church every week. He loved church so much. One of the reasons was he felt like this was the only church that accepted him as a friend, unlike any other denomination he's been too.
We found 6 new people to teach this week. The people we are currently teaching are progressing! Yay! Sister Kohler and I have hope for them (that was our goal of the week, to be more hopeful and it has been rewarding!) We did have to drop a couple that were not progressing, which is difficult, but I hope that we planted a seed in them that can grow in the future.
Tim is progressing! He loves the Plan of Salvation! He couldn't make it to church yesterday but he'll come next week. At first he was distressed about finding a ride for he and his son but there happened to be a member in his neighborhood to take him next week. Wow! We're keeping him in our prayers as well as Austin and Will and the other people we've been meeting and teaching.
Well folks, there’s the rundown of the week. Thank you for all your Spiritual thoughts, they are very uplifting and spiritually nourishing.
With all my love,
Sister Henderson
P.S. What do sprinters eat before their races? Nothing, they fast.
