Hello from Sister Henderson

August 10, 2019

Hello friends and family!!

I'm so so so thrilled I finally get to write you all! Also thank you for your prayers, they're working. Heavenly Father truly looks over his children. Your letters have also been a tremendous source of strength to me so THANK YOU!

I honestly don't know where to start. Wonderful things and stressful things have happened the first week and a half. So I'll begin with saying that YES The MTC has been amazing overall. I have learned so much I'm afraid to forget everything. I have learned so much more about Christ and how a sacred privilege it is to be a representative of Him. I have also been really thinking about my own conversion to Christ and how I actually, desperately need him in everything I do. One of my companions (I'm in a trio) wanted to share Matthew 14, a story we all know, but I never realized how applicable this story is to me at the MTC. Peter was walking on water, something no other man could do except Christ. It wasn't until he was distracted by the storm around him that caused him to doubt his faith.  During my stay at the MTC there are many storms (I guess you could call them distractions) involving self doubt, being sick, adjusting to the new schedule, being assigned Sister Training Leader and pretty much just adjusting to this mission life, it began to be easy to think about me. Sunday kind of hit me on how I needed to be better. When I try to develop the character of Christ my "problems" became much easier. Christ never thought about himself. Even when he could have had a good excuse he was always concerned about others in his worst trials. We hear about Christ several times and we know the stories, but trying to lock eyes with him like Peter and trying develope his character by looking outwardly changed my mission experience at the MTC. Always look to Him. Never forget Him and always trust that He can help you.

Onto the fun stuff. The new district is so welcoming and friendly. Too bad they all leave Monday and Tuesday. No for real, I'm quite sad. I felt like I fit right in. My new companionship (Sister Martinez and Sister Bingham) is great. They. Are. Amazing. Even though I'm a literal giant next to the two of them, they are spiritual giants next to me, haha. :)  The Elders are funny. Their first reaction to me coming in their district was, "Woah!! You look so much like Captain Marvel!" And since then I have been Sister Marvel to them.

HIGHLIGHTS
Best highlight was TRCs. You guys, the spirit is amazing! We had AMAZING lessons this week and I deserve no credit. Only the Spirit and the Book of Mormon get the credit. We taught a guy named Josh and a girl from New Zealand named Kaylee. We obviously came prepared with lessons and when the time came to teach them, both lessons flew out the window because they didn't address their needs like we thought they did. We ended up discussing the atonement from Alma 7 and faith from Alma 32. Alma's a winner. These were truly deep spiritual experiences and I don't know how to type it. I really hope these guys continue seeking for truth. It made me wish that I would have prayed more for the people who are being prepared to find the gospel and not JUST the missionaries teaching them.
Exercise time is another highlight. We're told several times to NOT get competitive but it does, and it is intense. This is only the case in other districts. We played kickball last night at the field and that was so much fun, aside from the fact I was an easy out, haha!!

Brother Trautman, one of my MTC teachers, is fantastic. One of the best parts about classroom is Book of Mormon study or share. He often takes us outside or in really peaceful places to study. His classes are also full of role playing.

FUN RANDOM FACTS
I've grown fond of the MTC's apples and chocolate chip cookies. They're quite delicious.
I found a live bug in my food on Wednesday. That was fun.
I've decided to risk it and try the MTC orange juice just 'cause I feel rebellious.
I've noticed the mail office has cheesy dad jokes on the wall so I thought I might share one. "Why did the Lamanite's legs hurt? Because of all the knee-fights HAHA!!"
I plan on sharing a dad jokes in my future letters.

FINAL THOUGHTS
Thank you for all your love and support. I hope you all know that I felt like it was my birthday when I got your emails. It makes me so happy and I always want to hear about your day. For some reasons I now enjoy reading long emails. Even short emails are great. Also I know some of you sent me packages. I got them and they're WONDERFUL. But on Tuesday the address will change. I can get permission to let my Mother know (because I have to move districts again).

God loves you. Trust Christ.
